Open predictions desk →Frances Tiafoe beat fellow American Taylor Fritz 6-4 6-4 to take the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, converting two decisive breaks while never surrendering his own serve. The win is Tiafoe’s first at ATP 500 level and gives him a timely confidence spike ahead of the grass swing.
Frances Tiafoe dismantled Daniel Altmaier in the Terra Wortmann Open semifinal, cruising past the German 6-1, 6-3 in roughly 73 minutes to reach the Halle final. Tiafoe’s early return aggression and steady serving left Altmaier little room to build his typically gritty rallies.
Taylor Fritz edged Alexander Zverev 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5 to reach the Terra Wortmann Open final, extending his streak over Zverev and denying the home favourite a run of momentum after Roland Garros. Fritz’s serving power and timely return pressure decided a tight three-setter on grass.
Frances Tiafoe recovered from a set down to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(12) in a quarterfinal that hinged on a 14-12 final-set tiebreak. Auger-Aliassime’s 25 aces repeatedly powered his hold, but Tiafoe’s return depth and break-point resilience decided the tight moments.
Daniel Altmaier outlasted Daniil Medvedev 6-4 6-7(6) 6-4 in the Halle quarterfinal, using a punishing first-serve day and stubborn defence to survive a second-set tiebreak and seal the decider. Altmaier’s 15 aces and five-of-six break points saved underpinned a nervy, high-variance win over the steadier Medvedev.
Taylor Fritz edged countryman Ben Shelton in a grass-court classic in Halle, prevailing 6-7(5), 7-6(8), 7-6(3) after three sets decided by tiebreaks. Fritz’s serving power and cleaner late-game execution in the tiebreaks turned a match without breaks into a narrow win that sends him into the semis.
