Open predictions desk →Alexander Zverev ended his long major drought, beating Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in a tense Roland-Garros final. Zverev absorbed erratic stretches, manufactured repeated break chances and then broke away early in the fifth to close out the first Grand Slam title of his career.
Minutes before their scheduled semifinal on June 5, 2026, Matteo Arnaldi withdrew because of a stomach virus, handing Flavio Cobolli a walkover into his first Grand Slam final. Cobolli will now face Alexander Zverev in the men’s final on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Alexander Zverev beat Jakub Mensik 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the French Open semifinal, closing in just over three hours as steadier serving and smarter point construction delivered the decisive margins. Mensik’s mid-match surge briefly shifted momentum, but Zverev’s experience carried the late games.
Flavio Cobolli recovered from a first-set deficit to defeat fourth seed Félix Auger-Aliassime 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4, reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final. Cobolli’s clutch serving under pressure and timely, deeper returns supplied the single breaks that decided three 6-4 sets.
Matteo Arnaldi moved into the French Open semifinals when Matteo Berrettini was forced to retire with a left-leg problem while trailing 7-5, 5-2. Arnaldi, who arrived at the match off a five-hour fourth-round epic, used depth and consistent aggression to seize control before the medical stoppage ended the contest.
Jakub Mensik closed out Joao Fonseca 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3) to reach his first major semi-final at Roland Garros, absorbing Fonseca’s power early and finishing the job in a tense third-set tiebreak. The 20-year-old’s serve and timely net forays unstitched a tiring Fonseca and set up a meeting with Alexander Zverev.
